Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor)

Geographic Distribution: North America. Southern Canada to Mexico.
 
Wingspan: 70-86 mm (2 3/4- 3 3/8 in).
 
Larval host plants: Pipevines (Aristolochia spp.).
 
Habits: Temperate forests and lowlands.
 
Identification: Coal-black to dark grey above with iridescent blue especially on hindwing margin. The hindwing margin has a row of cream and yellow spots around the rim. The underside of the hindwing has a row of large orange spots curving through blue along the margin.
