| Family: Papilionidae (swallowtails). Geographic Distribution: North and South America. Wingspan: 105-128 mm. Larval host plants: Citrus spp. and other Rutaceae, including Zanthoxylum spp.. Habits: In and at the edges of lowland tropical forests up to mid elevations. Identification: This species shares very similar markings to the Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes). The relatively square markings of the two large yellow spots on the forewing next to the body distinguish the Thoas from the Giant, whose spots are more rounded or triangular. |
